This Is What We Do

DESIGN

As a designer of custom curtainwalls, we approach each building as a fresh challenge.

Our business model doesn’t rely upon the marketing of preexisting standard systems, we routinely provide our customers with the exact aesthetics their project demands.

Our team of experts is able to incorporate our mock-up tested and time tested high performance details into a custom engineered system that meets today’s stringent energy codes and structural requirements.

While being sensitive to project costs, with experience in all phases of construction, our design team is able to analyze the building structure and field conditions to ensure these critical elements are factored into the final design. Many of our customers find that our innovative design approach has a direct positive impact on their field schedule and corresponding costs.

LEEDS

MK works to contribute LEED’s points to the project for the benefit of our customers. The recycled content of our aluminum and other products will qualify for points.

In many cases our central location in North Canton, Ohio gives us a close proximity to a high percentage of our customers and jobsites, thus generating additional valuable LEED’s points. MK works with the project architect to attain LEED’s points using the newest technologies such as photovoltaic panels or something as basic as custom operable vents.

FABRICATION

With 108,000 square foot facility, we have ample room to fabricate your curtainwall under controlled conditions.

Prior to fabricating any job material, samples are cut. These parts are checked for silicone adhesion, to extruder clearances, temper, quality and match of the finish. They are then fabricated to project specs to produce mock-ups of the project jointery and intersections and scrutinized for proper fit. Upon signing off on the sample material it is put into production.

MK’s ongoing quality control program provides regular inspection of production runs to guarantee consistency throughout.

GREEN BUILDING

MK works with project architects and building owners to custom design the curtainwall to incorporate their “Green Building” concepts.

Our systems are engineered on a per project basis to reduce material waste and maximize system efficiency.

Our systems integrate cutting edge technology to provide thermal insulation and can easily be modified to accept any thickness of insulated or laminated glazing.

Operable vents to promote natural ventilation, horizontal and vertical sunshades to reduce glare and solar heat gain, interior light shelves to reduce interior lighting requirements are just a few elements commonly used.

Newer technologies such as building integrated photovoltaic systems provide the architect with an entirely new design element that can be uniquely integrated into the buildings façade. MK works to get each custom wall system NFRC tested and certified if requested.

On a more personal level, MK’s employees strive to be as “green” as possible at our own facility. Our shop recycles all scrap aluminum pieces including the aluminum shavings. The shop also only uses recycled paper products that are used in packaging. We push our suppliers to provide us with the most environmentally friendly products available on the market for use in the manufacturing process and carry that mindset through to the final step by utilizing recycled packaging materials. Even the engineering staff takes pride in participating by only using recycled copy paper, by recycling paper and by recycling aluminum soft drink containers.

ASSEMBLY & GLAZING

Depending upon our customer’s specific needs, MK can ship fabricated materials knocked-down to customer facilities or assemble, glaze and ship to job sites.

Units are assembled and all frame joints are inspected for proper fit and sealant application. Units are squared and clamped in place. Gaskets are installed. Glass, panels or other infill material is set and aligned. Surfaces are cleaned and primed prior to all structural siliconing.

Silicone testing and documentation is performed throughout as part of our quality control program. Insulation, Shadowbox panels, back pans, vapor barrier tape and anchor attachments are all applied in MK’s shop.

When units arrive onsite, it is ready to be installed on the building. Units are packaged in custom designed breakage resistant crates to ensure they arrive undamaged.

NATIONAL FENESTRATION RATING COUNCIL

After January 1, 2010, National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) ratings for all commercial Fenestration products will be required in California.

MK is working with the NFRC, the Department of Energy (DOE) and industry experts to fairly institute this program for the custom curtain wall industry.

MK will work with this NFRC mandate and its Component Modeling Approach (CMA) to have our systems comply with the NFRC regulations.
